Spread
هذا المحتوى متاح حاليًا باللغة الإنجليزية فقط.
The spread is the gap between the ask, where you buy, and the bid, where you sell. You pay it on every trade as soon as the trade opens, and it is quoted in pips or, on MetaTrader, in points.
Open a trade and its profit is already slightly negative, before the price has moved. That starting gap is the spread.
The spread lesson covers it in depth, with measured data from real broker servers.
How the spread is measured
Every quote has a bid price, where you sell, and an ask price, where you buy. The ask is the higher of the two, and the spread is ask minus bid.
On EUR/USD a pip is 0.0001, so a gap of 0.00008 is 0.8 pip. MetaTrader counts spread in points, a tenth of a pip, so the same spread reads as 8.
Most accounts quote a floating spread that moves with the market. It widens at the daily rollover, the weekly open and around big news, when fewer prices are being made.
A worked example
At 16:35 UTC on 29 October 2026, an Exness Standard MT5 server showed EUR/USD at 1.11605 bid and 1.11613 ask. The spread was 1.11613 minus 1.11605 = 0.00008, or 0.8 pip.
Spread cost = spread in pips × pip value × lots. With a USD account, one pip on 1 lot of EUR/USD is worth $10, so this spread costs 0.8 × $10 × 1 = $8.00.
The Spread Checker shows the typical spread for each account type, as the median of the last 12 hours.
أسئلة شائعة
Is a lower spread always cheaper?
No. Raw spread accounts show a thin spread but charge a commission per lot, so compare spread plus commission in dollars per lot.
Why does the spread widen at night?
Around the daily rollover at 17:00 New York time, many liquidity providers step back for a few minutes. Fewer prices are made, so the gap between bid and ask grows.

PipetteA pipette is one tenth of a pip, shown as the extra last digit of most forex quotes. On EUR/USD it is 0.00001, the fifth decimal, and on yen pairs such as USD/JPY it is 0.001. Traders also call it a fractional pip.
Pip valuePip value is the amount of money a one pip move adds to or takes from a position. It equals the pip size times the units traded, counted in the quote currency. On one standard lot of EUR/USD in a US dollar account it is $10.
LotA lot is the standard unit of trade size in forex. One standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot is 10,000 and a micro lot is 1,000. MetaTrader shows these sizes as volumes of 1.00, 0.10 and 0.01.
Market orderA market order is an instruction to buy or sell straight away at the best price available. A buy fills at the ask and a sell at the bid. You get a fast fill but not a guaranteed price, so in a fast market the fill can slip.
Pending orderA pending order is an instruction to trade later, once price reaches a level you set. Limit orders wait for a better price than now; stop orders wait for price to break through a level. Until it triggers, no position is open.
Stop lossA stop loss is an order that closes your trade at a set price to cap the loss. It turns into a market order when price reaches it, so in a fast market or a gap it can fill at a worse price.
