Adjustable MA Forex Expert Advisor
A simple, customizable two-moving-average EA for MT5. Designed as a study and backtest template rather than a live trading system.
Adjustable MA is a compact, open-source expert advisor from EarnForex that implements a two-moving-average crossover: it opens on a cross and closes on the opposite cross. The package at AutoFXRebate includes a ready MT5 build and a PDF install guide. MT4 and MT5 source code is available on EarnForex's GitHub if you want to inspect or modify it.
All main inputs are exposed so you can set periods, MA type, a minimum difference filter, stop loss, take profit, trailing stop and slippage. The EA supports a fixed lot or a simple margin-based money management mode. EarnForex states the EA is intended for demo and learning use rather than live trading.
Run on demo first. The author states the EA is for study and backtesting; keep it on a demo account while you test settings and measure drawdown before any live use.

How the crossover runs here
The EA monitors two moving averages and flips the position whenever they cross. MinDiff requires a minimum gap between the lines before a cross counts, which reduces whipsaw signals when the averages run close to each other.
On ECN brokers that do not allow SL/TP to be attached on order open, the EA opens the trade and then modifies it to add stop loss and take profit automatically.
What you can change and why it matters
Every element of the MA crossover can be adjusted: the two periods, the MA calculation method, the minimum difference before a cross triggers and the money management mode. Use the Strategy Tester to produce a baseline, then change one value at a time and compare results.
The EA is intentionally simple so you can use it as a teaching tool or a starting point for your own ideas. The source code on GitHub makes inspection and modification straightforward.
Who this suits
Traders who want a transparent EA to learn how an automated strategy is built and to test MA settings quickly. It is not presented as a ready live strategy; consider other AutoFXRebate entries if you need a production-ready EA.
If you prefer to tweak code or need a clean template for backtests across many pairs and timeframes, this provides a minimal starting point.

Performance
Author-provided backtest on EURUSD M5 with default inputs shows about 12.2% growth over six years, roughly 12.6% maximum drawdown and 56.41% winners across 647 trades. Use those numbers only as a baseline to compare your own strategy variations and always validate changes on out-of-sample data while running the EA on demo.
Pros
- Free and open source; you can read and modify the code
- Simple, exposed inputs make it easy to learn and to backtest systematically
- No martingale or grid; position sizing is explicit
- Package at AutoFXRebate includes PDF install instructions and Telegram support
Cons
- Author states it is not profitable and recommends demo use only
- A plain two-MA crossover offers limited edge in modern markets without further filters
- Backtest results provided by the author are a single baseline and do not substitute for extensive forward testing
- No automatic tuning or advanced money management built in
Setup
- Download the package from AutoFXRebate and follow the included PDF guide for MT5 installation.
- Copy the EA file into your MQL5/Experts folder, then restart MetaTrader 5.
- Enable Algo Trading (AutoTrading) in MT5 so the EA can place trades.
- Attach the EA to an M5 EURUSD chart with default inputs, run the Strategy Tester to create a baseline, and record growth, max drawdown and number of trades.
- Change one input at a time, such as Period_1, Period_2, MinDiff or SL/TP, and rerun tests on other pairs and out-of-sample data.
- Keep the EA on a demo account while you tune. If you open an account through AutoFXRebate, the site provides per-lot backcom; message our Telegram if you need help installing.
Verdict
Adjustable MA is best treated as a teaching and backtesting template rather than a plug-and-play live EA. Its transparency and open source code make it useful if you want to understand a basic crossover or use it as a starting point for development.
Start on demo, follow the setup steps above, treat the author's backtest as a baseline to improve on, and consider live use only after long demo validation. Download the MT5 build for free from AutoFXRebate and contact our Telegram group if you need installation help.
