Margin call

A margin call is a warning that your margin level has hit the broker's threshold. Your open trades are thinly covered, but it does not close them by itself. If losses continue to the stop out level, the broker closes them.
A margin call is the account's warning light. The margin and stop out lesson shows where it sits between a new trade and a stop out.
When a margin call happens
Brokers watch your margin level, which is equity divided by used margin times 100%. When it falls to their margin call level, the account enters a margin call state.
MetaTrader 5 highlights the account line in red, and the broker may contact you.
Each broker and account type sets its own level. It is often given as a margin level percentage, and MetaTrader 5 also lets a broker set it as an equity amount instead.
Take round illustrative prices and an example margin call level of 100%. A $1,000 account holds 0.50 lot of EUR/USD bought at 1.10000, with $550 of margin.
A 90 pip fall to 1.09100 is a $450 loss, leaving $550 of equity. Margin level is now 100%, so the margin call starts.
How a margin call differs from a stop out
A stop out is the broker acting rather than warning. Pending orders are deleted and positions closed until margin level recovers.
In the example, with a stop out level of 50%, that happens at 1.08550, after a 145 pip fall leaves $275 of equity.
At a margin call you can still act: deposit more money, or close or reduce positions so less margin is used.
أسئلة شائعة
Does a margin call close my trades?
No, a margin call is only a warning. Positions are closed if margin level keeps falling to the broker's stop out level.
How do I avoid a margin call?
Keep positions small compared with your equity and put a stop loss on each trade, so an ordinary losing move stays far from the threshold.
Leverage multiplies losses as well as gains; only trade money you can afford to lose.

LeverageLeverage is the ratio between the size of a position and the margin needed to open it. At 1:100, each $1 of margin controls $100 of position. Leverage sets how much margin a trade locks, not how much each pip is worth.
MarginMargin is the part of your account set aside as a deposit for an open leveraged trade. It equals the position's value divided by your leverage. It is not a fee, and it is released when the trade closes.
Free marginFree margin is the part of your equity not tied up as margin by open trades. It equals equity minus used margin. You need free margin to open new positions, and it shrinks as open trades lose money.
EquityEquity is your account's value right now: balance plus or minus floating profit or loss. It counts every open position. Free margin and margin level are both worked out from equity, not from the balance.
Account balanceYour balance is the money in your account from deposits, withdrawals and closed trades. It does not move with open positions. Their floating profit or loss is counted in equity instead, so balance and equity differ while trades are open.
