How the levels are calculated
Each level is a fixed share of the swing. In an uptrend retracements are measured down from the high, and extensions project beyond it. In a downtrend everything is mirrored.
The 61.8% level comes from the golden ratio. 50% is not a Fibonacci ratio, but traders watch it anyway.
Uptrend retracement = high − ratio × (high − low)Uptrend extension = low + ratio × (high − low)
Questions
How do traders use retracement levels?
As areas where a pullback may end. Many wait for price to react at 38.2%, 50% or 61.8% before entering in the direction of the trend, with a stop beyond the next level.
Which swing points should I use?
The most recent clear high and low on the timeframe you trade. Different swings give different levels, so stay consistent.
Do Fibonacci levels really work?
They have no built-in power. They matter because many traders watch them, and they work best together with support, resistance and the trend.
