How swap is calculated
Swap is the interest difference between the two currencies of a pair, paid or charged when you hold a position past the daily rollover at 17:00 New York time. Brokers publish it in points per lot.
The calculator turns points into money with the point size and contract of the instrument, converts it to your account currency and multiplies by the nights you hold, counting Wednesday three times.
Swap per night = points × point size × contract × lotsWeek = 7 × swap per night (Wednesday counts 3)
Questions
Why is Wednesday swap triple?
Forex trades settle two days later. A position held over Wednesday's rollover settles on Friday plus the weekend, so it pays three days of interest at once.
Can swap be positive?
Yes. When you buy the currency with the higher interest rate, some brokers pay you swap each night. The broker's markup often turns small positive rates negative.
Where do I find my broker's swap rates?
In MT4 or MT5, right click the symbol in Market Watch, choose Specification, and read Swap long and Swap short. The broker rates in this tool come from that same specification.
What is a swap-free account?
An account type with no overnight interest, offered for religious reasons or by request. Brokers may charge a fixed fee instead after a few nights.
Trade the same, pay less
Every lot you trade pays spread or commission. Open your account through AutoFXRebate and the broker pays part of that cost back to you as a rebate.
