Smart Machine EA
A fully automated MT4 robot. It enters with the trend when RSI and a moving average agree, then handles losing trades with a recovery basket. It runs best on EURUSD M5, ideally on a cent account and a VPS.
Smart Machine EA is a fully automated MetaTrader 4 robot. It opens a position when RSI and a moving average agree on the trend. If price moves its way, the trade closes at target and the EA waits for the next setup. If price goes the other way, the EA holds the trade instead of taking the loss straight away. It places recovery trades at support and resistance levels and tries to close the whole basket at a combined target.
It runs best on EURUSD M5. GBPUSD and M15 are the usual alternatives. Around the entry logic you get an equity stop that closes everything once floating loss reaches your limit, a news filter that keeps the EA out during releases such as NFP and FOMC, a max risk per trade input, and hidden take profit and stop loss. You will set these from day one. Study the recovery basket first, because it sets how deep your drawdown can go.
About the recovery basket. Recovery works like a grid. A losing trade is held and joined by more trades instead of being cut, so a long one-way move can push floating loss very deep. On a small account, run it on a cent account, keep the starting lot at the minimum and set the equity stop at the largest loss you are willing to take.

How a trade unfolds
The EA waits until RSI and its moving average point the same way as the short-term trend, then opens one position. If price follows through, the trade closes at its target. That's it. Most of the time on EURUSD M5, this is all the EA does.
When the first trade goes against you, the recovery logic takes over. The EA adds trades at nearby support or resistance levels, which pulls the basket's average price closer to the market. Once the combined position reaches its target, the whole basket closes together. While this runs you will see several EURUSD positions open on the same chart. Watch their floating loss.
The controls that keep it in check
Set the limits around the recovery basket before the EA starts trading. Without them the basket is hard to manage. We would look at these inputs first.
- Equity stop closes every open trade when floating loss reaches the percentage you choose. Set it to a loss you can genuinely accept, not to the most the account can hold.
- Max risk per trade caps the size of each entry, so a recovery basket can only get so heavy.
- The news filter pauses new entries around high-impact releases such as Non-Farm Payrolls and FOMC. M5 spreads and spikes are at their worst then.
- With hidden TP and SL, the EA tracks your target and stop internally rather than placing them on the broker server. If the terminal is closed, it cannot act on them.
Who it suits and what to weigh
Smart Machine suits traders who want a hands-off EURUSD robot and understand what a recovery basket does to drawdown. A cent account fits it best. There, $100 gives the basket room to work without large real-money exposure while you learn how it behaves.
Two things matter more than any setting. The EA has to stay connected all day, so a VPS is part of the setup, not an optional extra. You also have to accept that a strong trending day can close a basket at the equity stop. If you never want more than one position open at a time, a single-trade EA or a manual tool from the AutoFXRebate library will fit you better.
Features
- Trend entries confirmed with RSI and a moving average
- Recovery trades placed at support and resistance, closed as one basket
- Equity stop closes all trades at a floating loss limit you set
- Max risk per trade input to cap position size
- Sits out high-impact releases such as NFP and FOMC through its news filter
- Hidden take profit and stop loss, handled inside the EA
- Tuned for EURUSD on M5; also runs on GBPUSD and M15
Performance
Results depend heavily on your broker, your spread and how you limit the recovery basket. The demo or cent period shows you what this EA does on your account. Run it for at least two weeks and write down the deepest floating drawdown, the most trades a basket reached, the biggest lot it opened and how long baskets stayed open. Check news days too. Size the live account from those numbers, never from a backtest curve.
Advantages
- Entry rules built on RSI and moving averages are easy to follow
- Equity stop and max risk input put hard limits on the recovery basket
- The news filter keeps it out of the most volatile M5 sessions
- Runs on a $100 cent account, so realistic testing costs little
Disadvantages
- A strong one-way trend can build a deep floating loss in the recovery basket
- Hidden TP and SL only work while the terminal is running, which means you need a VPS
- MT4 only. There is no MT5 version.
- M5 trading is sensitive to spread and slippage, and both vary between brokers
Setup
- Open the PDF install guide from the download and follow the MT4 section
- In MT4, go to File > Open Data Folder, copy the EA into MQL4/Experts and restart the terminal
- Enable AutoTrading, open a EURUSD M5 chart and attach Smart Machine EA with default inputs
- Keep the equity stop and max risk per trade small. Leave the news filter on.
- Test on a demo or cent account for at least two weeks, logging the deepest drawdown and the largest basket
- Before going live, move it to a VPS that stays online 24/7, and start on a cent account
- Open your live account through AutoFXRebate to get backcom on every lot the EA trades
What Smart Machine EA costs to run
The EA is free, but every trade it opens still pays the spread, plus commission on accounts that charge one. On EURUSD that comes to $4.13 to $11.90 a lot after the rebate, depending on the account.
| Broker · Account | EURUSD | GBPUSD |
|---|---|---|
| Exness Raw Spread | $4.13 (lowest) | $4.88 (lowest) |
| Exness Zero | $4.13 (lowest) | $5.01 |
| Exness Pro | $4.50 | $5.25 |
| Exness Standard | $4.80 | $6.00 |
| Exness Standard Plus | $6.60 | $8.40 |
| XM Ultra Low Standard | $7.85 | $9.35 |
| XM Standard | $11.90 | $14.00 |
The top figure is the cost of one lot, opened and closed, after the rebate. The struck-through figure is the cost before it. These are estimates from the typical spread of the last 12 hours plus commission.
